Educators impact the common good in society every day through their students. I have learned through this first semester that being a teacher requires character and good morals. A teacher should not only reflect intelligence into their students, but they should also reflect good morals and values into their students. This would include characteristics like patience, kindness, honesty, etc. Teachers receive new students every year. This would mean that if these characteristics reflect into students of all teachers than ideally all future generations and people in society will be kind to each other and things will run much smoother than they do now. If everyone followed these morals and then golden rule of treating others the way that we want to be treated than the common good will definitley benefit from these teachings.
From being out into the world of teaching in a tutoring role I have seen that children value relationships with people that they look up to. They appreciate having an adult to go to when they feel as though they need help or just simply company. We improve the common good by giving children not only role models but people who they can trust and talk to when they need assistance or advice. A child needs this kind of connection in life aside from their parents. Interacting with adults helps children not only build social skills and develop healthy relationships outside of their immediate family circle.
Finally, educators partner with parents and community members to solve problems within their society. This aids the common good of their community and their students. Greater participation of community members results in a larger number of people who are aware of the issues that reside within their community. The more people that are aware of an issue, the more people there are to unite in order to solve the problem. Educators impact the community by bringing people together and encouraging unity.
